The Most Beautiful Song I Know

In case you haven’t noticed from my previous posts, I have a tendency to live in the past. I find it so easy to think back to a time when things were easy or beautiful and spend so much time wishing I could go back that I miss out on what’s beautiful right now.

No, maybe I don’t get to spend seemingly endless weekend hours in my best friend’s basement making up songs on her keyboard or stay up until 3 am on a random Tuesday crammed into a dorm room with a dozen people, our legs all pressed against each other because there is no room to sit, just talking about anything.

But I do get to sit beside the lake and laugh over donuts with the people who make my heart feel full or curl up on the couch in my apartment with my puppy at my feet and breath in what it feels like to achieve some of the things I’ve worked so hard for.

To Build a Home by The Cinematic Orchestra is a memory. It’s a place where something beautiful lives, but it’s no longer. It’s a reminder that something that was one incredible can be looked upon fondly but does not have to be eternal. There will always be a new beauty.

It also just happens to be a hypnotizingly beautiful song.
